Can’t make up your mind between a high efficiency tankless water heater and a standard tank-style water heater? You can have the best of both worlds with one of our Hybrid Electric Heat Pump Water Heaters.

Our hybrid electric heat pump water heaters are super efficient and ENERGY STAR ® rated. The downside of the tank style water heater is that you have to use gas or electricity to heat the entire tank. The nice thing about a tankless water heater is that you only pay to heat the water that you use. The hybrid electric heat pump water heater converts the warmth in your garage or basement to electrical energy and uses that to heat the water. The energy savings and energy factor are amazing on a heat pump water heater. Our clients typically save $350 to $400 per year by converting.

What are the benefits of a hybrid electric heat pump water heater?

There are many benefits to the hybrid water heater technology, among them are:

  • Large volumes of hot water (up to 80 gallons)
  • Highest level of energy efficiency currently available in an electric water heater
  • Increased life span over ordinary tank style water heaters—10 year warranty vs 6 year warranty
  • Digital control panel allowing for more precise temperature control
  • Save on your water bill by installing a re-circulation pump system—no more waiting for the shower to get hot!

How long do hybrid water heaters typically last?

As long as your hybrid heat pump water heater is professionally installed and properly maintained you should expect to see at least 12 to 15 years of performance before it needs to be replaced.

How much does it cost to convert from a tanked heater to a hybrid electric heat pump?

The heat pump water heaters to often require some repiping of the water lines and there is also an added drain line for the condensation from the heat pump. On average, heat pump water heaters can cost between $4,000 and $5,400 to install.

What type of annual service is required with a heat pump water heater?

We agree with the manufacturers that you should have your hybrid electric heat pump water heater flush and inspected every year. This service is included with our Family Protection Plan.

Should I have a water filtration system installed with my hybrid water heater?

We highly recommend installing a water softener as well as a granulated activated (GAC) filter with your heat pump water heater. The water softener will eliminate scaling inside of the unit and the GAC filter will remove harmful chlorine and chloramine from wearing out the other components.

Will a saltless water softener work with my heat pump water heater?

Not all saltless water softeners are created equal. We have had really good experience with Nuvo saltless water conditioning and catalytic water conditioners. We have not had as good of success with the Freije saltless water softeners, though many clients still choose to have one installed.

Will I save money with a heat pump?

You should save money with a heat pump, but we never push the energy savings as a major reason to upgrade because most clients only save $20-$30 per month. The biggest benefit is the cleaner water, lower energy usage and higher quantities of hot water.
